Cromford Leather Company is no stranger to the silver screen, but earlier this year we were proud to add another movie legend to our record of stars for whom we have tailored bespoke leather garments for the cinema.
In March this year we were paid a visit by the costume department for Robert Zemeckis’ romantic WWII thriller ‘Allied‘ by Paramount Pictures. The film starts Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, and tells the story of intelligence officer Max Vatan, who in 1942 North Africa encounters French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Reunited in London, their relationship is threatened by the extreme pressures of the war.
Bespoke Leather Jacket in Silky Lambskin by Cromford Leather
With costume design by the legendary Joanna Johnston, the movie is a feast of Old Hollywood Glamour, and all of the outfits in the film were custom – made for the cast. Our contribution to the stunning collection of costumes was a bespoke, tan suede 40’s style jacket in silky lambskin. The jacket features gorgeous detailing, perfectly evocative of the era, including a contrast leather collar, vintage buckles, half belt and an action back. We worked closely with the costume team in our Chiltern Street studio to ensure all of the components which made up the jacket were both factually accurate and of the best quality, before constructing the garment with the closest attention to detail, as we do with every bespoke piece we make.
Johnston styles the jacket perfectly with a blue jumper, grey flannel trousers and a grey fedora hat, in a scene where Vatan and Beausejour stroll through the streets of London with their baby on a family picnic. The result is an effortless piece of classic menswear style; and whilst designed for the 1940’s setting, with small tweaks the jacket and outfit is just as relevant today.
